DESCRIPTION

Haines, Gipson & Associates, Inc. provided the Civil Engineering services for several new buildings on the North Georgia College and State University’s campus in Dahlonega, Georgia. The projects include: a four story, 147,000 sq-ft civilian housing building known as the Civilian Housing Village. The Village consists of two, four and five-story split buildings housing approximately 300 beds, The buildings are positioned to work with the natural topography of the site and are connected by a central two-story community center. A four story, 85,000 sq-ft cadet housing building, specifically designed for use by the college’s R.O.T.C. program is also part of the addition. The Cadet Housing is specifically designed to fit the organizational structure of the Corps of Cadets in a single building facility. A 38,860 sq-ft dual level student dining and banquet facility is designed to be the “Signature Facility” on campus. The dinning hall overlooks the famous Drill Field in the center of the NGCSU campus. The new facility includes 943 general dining seats, 252 banquet hall seats and a 20 seat conference dining area. The dining facility’s roof is also designed to accommodate outdoor gatherings and pedestrian access from the street above. Another design item is a six level parking deck structure that provides over a thousand new parking spaces that serves the new housing and dining as well as general campus. Some of the design components of these projects included extensive pedestrian walkways, re-alignment of two campus roads, site fire protection and domestic water service extensions to each building, the designing/detailing of underground storm water management systems for each building, the associated storm water collection and conveyance systems, and erosion/sediment pollution control and prevention measures to comply with Georgia’s NPDES mandates. In addition to the engineering design services; HGA also provided permitting assistance and construction administration services for the site/civil portions of the project.
