CATERPILLAR MANUFACTURING & DISTRIBUTION FACILITY

DESCRIPTION

Haines Gipson & Associates provided engineering services for a 277,000 SF facility to accommodate fabrication and parts for the Skid Steer operations and is located across from the existing plant (see photo).

The project is located on an 80 acre site, but the bulk of the work was concentrated in the heavily trafficked front “door” of the existing plant. Staging was critical because of the forest of buried utility lines that could not be interrupted.

The bulk of the plant is high bay open warehouse space, but the front segment is 2-story office space. The construction was conventional bar joists and joist girders supported by tube columns and shallow foundations. The perimeter envelope was completed by load bearing tilt-up wall panels.
