The bridge over Ivy Creek was 470-foot long consisting of 4 spans with MSE walls for abutments. Some of the constraints impacting this project included a major AT&T communication tower and distribution facility, which was secured by construction of a 12-foot high concrete wall. The roadway parallels I-985 in some areas that required coordination and permitting with the Federal Highway Administration for future expansion of I-985. Another major impact was the extent of stream and wetland crossings, which normally requires an individual environmental permit. This issue was handled by the use of MSE walls to meet the environmental and schedule requirements. Another problem was the constraint of a tight project schedule. The project was completed 2 months ahead of schedule.
