HGA is home to a dedicated team of 30 employees, including 28 engineers who bring a wide range of experience and technical expertise to every project. Nineteen of our engineers are licensed Professional Engineers, 10 are registered Structural Engineers, and 2 are LEED certified. Several of our Engineers-in-Training (EITs) are actively working toward licensure, supported by mentorship and structured development opportunities.

We’re proud of our high retention rate, with 15 of our team members having been with the company for over 20 years and several who have been at the company for over 30 years. That longevity fosters a culture of consistency, deep institutional knowledge, and mutual trust. We invest in our people through continuing education seminars, in-house training sessions, and lunch-and-learns on emerging topics, ensuring every team member stays at the forefront of the industry.

A native of South Carolina, Clay joined Guillebeau Britt & Haines in 1987 in its Greenville, SC office.  He relocated to the Atlanta office in 1988, continuing to work in the Civil Engineering Department and in 1993, after receiving his Georgia Professional Engineers license, was named an associate and became lead on myriad of private and public land development projects encompassing all sectors.  In 1996, Clay was named a principal in the company and assumed the lead of HGA’s Civil Engineering Department. Follow the retirement of Randy Gipson, Clay transitioned into the role of President of the company.

Clay’s career at HGA exemplifies the principle that service supported by solid, proven engineering principles and tactics is the key to success.  One of his operating principles is “listen to your client and build a solid relationship based on mutual trust and open communication, but never at the expense of your integrity.”

Through the years, Clay has successfully demonstrated these principles and his skills with premier development companies such as Fuqua Development, Pope & Land, and The Bishop Company and to reputable national retailers including  Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes and Publix Supermarkets.

Clay is married with three children and two grandchildren. Besides enjoying time with them, he plays golf, hunts, shoots and dedicates time to his wife and his garden.

Bob combines his 30+ years of civil engineering and management knowledge with an additional 5 years of relevant military experience to bring a broad and client-focused background to commercial, retail, industrial, multi-family, and educational projects.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and a veteran of Desert Shield (Iraq, Saudi Arabia), Desert Storm (Iraq, Kuwait) and Operation Restore Hope (Somalia), Bob joined HGA in August 1994 as a project engineer before becoming a principal of the firm in 2012.

David rejoined HGA in 2014 after having worked at the firm from 1997-2008.  He has been a project manager on a variety of projects including industrial, cold storage, retail, and institutional. He has completed structural engineering projects across the U.S and in all aspects required for project completion including fee and cost estimations, structural design and detailing, project coordination across disciplines, and construction administration.

For each project he works on, David strives to provide effective, safe designs based on proven engineering methods, within the prescribed budget, and with minimal field issues during construction. He attained his PE license in Georgia in 2002 and later passed the 16-hour NCEES Structural Engineering exam.  David also authored the book “Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam”, which is a study guide to help structural engineers prepare for the SE Exam.

Luke began his career at HGA as part of our Civil Department in 2006 and assisted in site design on a variety of land development projects which lead to him obtaining his Professional Engineering license in 2011. Luke has since and continues to be the Lead Civil Engineer for a multitude of land development projects which include both new and re-development sites for small/large retail and mixed-use developments, multi-family, warehouse/distribution, and office developments, as well as schools ranging in location across the southeastern US. Luke’s current engineering responsibilities include overall design (Site, Utility, Grading, Erosion Control, etc.) and drafting for permitting and construction documents, hydrologic assessment and reports, project coordination between applicable disciplines, permitting through state and local authorities, as well as management of projects through the design, construction, and closeout phases.

Luke has spearheaded the effort to develop and maintain HGA’s drafting standards for AutoCAD Civil 3D, ensuring the Civil Department’s quality and turnaround is ahead of its competitors. He also is instrumental in the research and deployment of advanced methods and technologies that enhance HGA’s civil engineering designs, maximizing productivity and helping deliver solutions that surpass the clients’ expectations.

Joseph is a project manager for HGA and an actively practicing licensed Structural Engineer.  He joined HGA in 2021 and (as of 2025) he has over 15 years of combined experience in Structural and Civil Engineering after his MS.  He is proficient in structural modeling, analysis, assessment, retrofit, and cost-efficient design based on applicable design codes and standards.  He is highly proficient in Revit structural modeling, which allows for seamless coordination and information exchange with clients in every design and construction phase.  His design and project management experience encompasses various structural systems including steel frames, tilt-up concrete panels, shallow/deep foundations, concrete shear/retaining walls, PT concrete slab/beams, and wood/light gauge metal frames.  After his PhD, he passed the 16-hour NCEES Structural Engineering exam in 2019.

Lionel joined HGA’s Structural Engineering Department in 2025 and has three years of prior structural engineering experience, with an emphasis on multi-story apartments, mixed-use projects and low-rise manufacturing warehouses facilities. His experience has given him the opportunity to work on diverse projects with a variety of materials, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, light-frame wood and masonry.

David has been employed with HGA since 2014 and has more than a decade of structural engineering experience with particular expertise in the design of low-rise buildings such as education, government, religious, warehouses, and office/retail spaces. He has experience detailing and designing construction materials such as structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, cold-formed steel, and wood.

Katy joined HGA in 2021, bringing decades of commercial and institutional experience to the firm. She manages projects from development to construction administration, including design, detailing, and project coordination. Katy operates with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring every condition is addressed to mitigate the risk of construction delays — minimizing field inquiries and ensuring the project construction timeline stays on track.

Katy’s most recent projects include Henry County school system, including the “Stranger Things” site of the future Henry County Stem High School currently under construction (McDonough, GA), Wesleyan School Young Hall (Peachtree Corners, GA), Seven Hills Middle School (Dallas, GA), Walton County YMCA (Monroe, GA), Henry Country Administration Building (McDonough, GA) and numerous distribution centers throughout the South East.

Katy is married with 2 sons. Her passion is solving complex problems and watching her two, student-athlete sons compete – a college basketball power forward and high school football player.

Nathan joined HGA’s Structural Engineering Department in 2023. Nathan has 2 years of prior structural engineering experience, where he was involved in several multi-story apartment and mixed-use projects. While at HGA, his diverse blend of project experience includes but is not limited to commercial, industrial, educational, and renovation of existing structures. His project experience has allowed him to be involved with several common construction materials including structural steel, reinforced concrete, light-frame wood, masonry, and cold-form steel.

Paul Pike joined Haines Gipson & Associates in 2024 and brings prior experience in multifamily structural design with an emphasis on wood-frame construction. Since joining the firm, he has contributed to a variety of projects, including distribution centers, medical clinics, and warehouse facilities. His work has focused on tilt-up warehouse construction and steel framing systems.

In his role, Paul focuses on building strong, collaborative relationships with clients, architects, and contractors to help deliver practical and efficient structural solutions. Trent joined the HGA Civil Department in 2019 and serves as a Project Manager for commercial, industrial, and municipal sites.  His responsibilities include pre-design planning and coordination, preparation of full civil design plan sets and stormwater hydrology studies, and project permitting, as well as construction administration and inspections.

Mandy Smith

Experience:
Mandy is the voice and face of Haines, Gipson & Associates and has been for over 25 years.  It’s her calm voice and steady handling of communications for HGA that includes online, in-person and over the phone.

As the office manager, she coordinates and oversees virtually every aspect of an office of nearly 30 engineering professionals that includes maintaining schedules, arranging meetings, managing office equipment and supplies, preparing documents and proposals and is the shipping and receiving department for the firm.

In addition, she is responsible for ensuring professional registrations are current and scheduling professional development courses and credits for the staff.  Mandy is the smooth operator at HGA and sets the standard for keeping the operations running effectively.

Mandy is married and is the proud mother of three children and four grandchildren. Mandy enjoys spending time with them and attending their activities including lacrosse & tennis.

With more than 35 years of structural engineering and management experience, Randy has the deep experience and knowledge from working with literally hundreds of clients across virtually every industry segment.  As a principal and managing partner of HGA, he brings that expertise, experience and oversight to the broad spectrum of new and long-time customers on a the wide range of projects – from the straightforward to the complex.

After joining Guillebeau Britt & Haines in 1984, Randy assumed the role of leading the Atlanta office’s structural engineering department in 1991. In 1994, with the retirement of founding partner Otis Guillebeau and departure longtime partner Ed Britt, the firm transitioned to the current company name, Haines, Gipson & Associates and Randy became President.

Randy’s career has emphasized the same principles he grew up with – integrity and fairness; work you’re proud to put your name on; keeping your word and commitments; and satisfying a personal level of conscientiousness and responsibility uncommon in today’s environment.

HGA also reflects Randy’s philosophy in delivering quality, based on sound engineering principles, for every client; in remaining current through continued training and learning; and in providing an uncompromising level of service.   HGA’s innate ability to view a project through the client’s eyes including critical milestones and construction budgets, has enabled the firm to maintain long-term client relationships, a reputation for reliability, and to expand its customer base to include new industry segments.

Danny joined Guillebeau Britt & Haines in 1986 in the structural department, becoming an associate in 1995 and being named principal of the HGA structural engineering department in 1996.

Danny epitomizes the values of HGA – top-quality, reliable and responsible work based on proven engineering principles; superior client service; viewing projects from the clients’ perspective; meeting commitments and timeframes; and operating with honesty, taking responsibility and integrity.

In his more than 30 years at the firm, Danny has demonstrated the broad depth of skills required to lead projects across diverse industries from transportation to education to manufacturing.  He has been instrumental in expanding the customer base by developing new long-term relationships with various local and state governmental agencies, aviation and heavy industrial manufacturing clients.
